Art Exhibition Starting Today!

The new exhibition on show at the Grundy Art Gallery, Blackpool, is Blank Stir and it opens today! Featuring new works by two of the most prominent contemporary artists in the north west, Leo Fitzmaurice and Paul Rooney, it's nice to see some northern talent making a welcome comeback to the town.
Rooney has ceated a haunting sound piece specially for the Grundy, while Fitzmaurice works with the seemingly innocent medium of parcel tape to create a thoroughly disorientating gallery experience.
The exhibition comprises two separate installations, which work together to create an unsettling relationship for the observer. This isn't the first time this creative duo have worked together, they did so back in 2008 with their boo Wrongteous.
Blank Stir will run until the 5th May 2012 at The Grundy Art Gallery, Queen Street, Blackpool. Remember admission is FREE so if you have a spare couple of hours or simple fancy a day out at the seaside where better than to open your mind...

Last Chance To See...

The current exhibition on show in the stunning surrounding of Blackpool's Grundy Art Gallery is The Blackpool Art Fair 2011, which is due to finish on 14 January 2012. The biannual art exhibition celebrates all things associated with Blackpool and its community, drawing on talents from the length and breadth of the Fylde Coast and beyond. The fair features contributions by many creative forces found locally including Blackpool Model Village and Blackpool Art Society, in addition to 120 works produced by local artists.

Welcome!

Welcome one and all to Creative North West!

I have specially created this blog to raise the profile of the arts, culture and heritage scene across the north west, but specifically along the Fylde Coast and Lancashire. However, as an exponent of all things creative I may in time feature exhibits, museums or craft fairs etc from across the county, or the world!

To give you a brief overview of where I'm coming from: I am 25 years old, I currently live in Blackpool, Lancashire, and I write, make things and generally try to appreciate arts wonders. I have a 'colourful' career history to date. Having graduated witha  BA Hons in English Literature from Cardiff University in 2008, I then went on to complete an internship with The Wordsworth Trust during 2009, working for them again in 2010. I have also worked in admin on a magazine and currently work in  a library. In that time I have also been volunteering as a Blackpool Heritage Champion and as a contributor to the arts website Artsphere and the Blackpool-based website Blackpool Aloud. Both of these enabled me to develop my skills as a writer and have led me to want to establish my own network for others to contribute news, reviews, features and the like to.

It is early days but I hope this will lead somewhere very exciting, and above all be a forum for all those interested in the great and varied arts scene of the north west.
