Creative North West is an upcoming blog devoted to the promotion and appreciation of the arts, crafts and heritage scene across the Fylde Coast and the North West.
The inspiration to set up this blog came because I am passionate about my home town, Blackpool. However, I also love the arts in all its guises, and one thing always strikes me when I use the terms 'Blackpool' and 'art' in the same sentence: people raise their quizzical eyebrow.
Blackpool and the Fylde are not necessarily renowned for having a pulsating cultural scene, which is fair enough. I mean, we all know it's no cutting-edge cosmopolitan city. But that does not mean that there is no cultural vibe or creativity nestling in pockets around the local area. Like anywhere, creativity breeds wherever there are independent minds, and if I've learnt anything about the Fylde Coast over my 25 years it is that there are plenty of strong, independent minds around!
So in this little corner of the Internet I plan to unearth the 'underground' cultural scene and record my experiences interacting with it.
My ambitions do not end there, however. The name Creative North West would be misleading if I only intended to discuss the cultural vibrances of the Fylde Coast. I also plan to use this space to keep track of any interesting events and exhibitions coming up across the various villages, towns and cities of the beautiful North West. If there is one thing which winds me up, it is the supposition the centralisation of the current UK arts scene. And so, as the blog progresses, I hope to invite more and more people to join in and raise the profile of the Creative North West.
If this is the kind of thing that floats your proverbial boat then please keep checking back for updates on new artistic happenings around the North West coast, and if you would like to get involved and contribute then feel free to e-mail me with your ideas!
